Josh Goldberg is a trial lawyer and partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. Since 2002, Josh has represented a variety of clients in all areas of commercial litigation, including real estate, contract, employment, insurance, bankruptcy, advertising, intellectual property, and criminal law. First and foremost, Josh seeks to obtain favorable results for clients in the most efficient manner possible. As a close second, Josh routinely advises clients in all aspects of their businesses to avoid costly litigation from the get-go.
Josh has extensive trial experience and is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the Northern District of Illinois, and the Seventh Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. He also is a member of the Federal Trial Bar.
Representative Experience:
- Represented scrap metal recycler in multi-million contract and fraud dispute involving a coal plant decommission in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. KCK Indus., LLC v. MCM Mgmt. Corp., No. 1:19-CV-05173, (N.D. Ill. 2020).
- Obtained jury verdict in favor of mortgage lender in defense of overtime wage claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act—the only FLSA jury trial reported in the U.S. Dsirtict Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Silver v. Townstone Fin., Inc., No. 14-CV-1938 (N.D. Ill. 2017).
- Obtained injunctive relief after emergency proceedings in for international bio-fuel inspection and testing company in misappropriation of trade secret case against former management employees and major competitor. Intertek USA Inc. v. AmSpec, LLC, No. 14 CV 6160 (N.D. Ill. 2014).
- Represented high-speed financial trading firm in dispute with former employee and LLC member, regarding alleged securities violations, RICO, contract, and fraud claims. Shirley v. Jed Capital, LLC, LLC, No. 09 C 7894 (N.D. Ill. 2010).
- Tried multi-week bench trial regarding purchase of $2 million single-family home that resulted in a judgment of specific performance of sales contract in favor of home-buyer clients. Glazer v. Janus Dev. Grp., No. 2007 CH 20867 (Cook County Circuit Court 2011).
- Appointed Special Illinois Attorney General in successful defense of State of Illinois against appeals of discharged State employees placed in civil service positions by outgoing gubernatorial administration. Illinois Dep’t of Revenue v. Illinois Civ. Serv. Comm’n, 357 Ill. App. 3d 352, 827 N.E. 2d 960 (Ill. App. Ct. 2005).
- First-chair counsel leading five-attorney litigation team in one-week first degree murder trial in the Cook County Circuit Court.
Josh received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 2002, his B.A. from the University of Illinois in 1993, and M.S.J. from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1996. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Josh worked as a newspaper reporter for The Billings Gazette in Billings, Montana and The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin in Chicago, focusing on various aspects of law enforcement and the legal industry. He lives in Evanston with his wife and two children, and when not working, enjoys golf, exercise, and travel.
